Aaron Wong
Asst. Prof. of Worship and Music Technology and Director of the Worship Collectives
Aaron Wong is an energetic performer and music educator. He holds a BMus with classical guitar emphasis from Moody Bible Institute. After completing his degree at Moody in 2010, he immediately began full-time ministry in the field of Worship Arts. It was in this setting that he recognized the importance of leadership in ministry. This motivated him to complete a Master’s degree in Transformational Leadership from Bethel Seminary.
His church music ministry experience over the past 14 years includes guitar, drums, bass, worship leading, song writing, and conducting choir and orchestra, as well as audio engineering. Aaron is an active member of Maywood Free Church – Rockford, where he served as Pastor of Worship and Creative Outreach for over 8 years.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Aaron was the lead guitarist and singer in the rock band "The Buddies" in his teenage years. He composed a theme song for the "Teen AIDS" organization in Hong Kong for their Aids awareness program, for which they were awarded an honor prize. Aaron has worked with the Christian magazine "U+" to promote original song writing. He has given solo guitar concerts in England and Scotland. He had also shared the stage with Keith and Kristyn Getty.
Currently, Aaron is a member of Ivy String Duo and the owner of Aaron Wong Studio, giving private lessons and developing many young local musicians in the Rockford area. Aaron and his wife, Abbey, have four children. In his spare time, Aaron enjoys going out with his family, surfing when he is around some good waves, and cheering for his favorite soccer team - Manchester United.
