Aaron Wong Joins the M&MA Faculty
In August 2024, Aaron Wong joined the M&MA faculty as our Professor of Worship and Music Technology. He shares the following story of leaving Moody and returning fourteen years later to teach and mentor students…
“I still remember the beautiful Saturday morning in May when I walked across the platform at Moody Church to receive my Bachelors of Music degree from Moody Bible Institute. It was an incredible reward for the five years of hard work and literally thousands of hours of practice with my instrument. Over the next fourteen years, I served in local churches of multiple sizes. I was a full-time Worship Arts Intern and an interim Worship Arts Pastor in a large church in Midland, Michigan. After getting married to my beautiful bride, I accepted the opportunity to serve as the Director of Worship in a smaller congregation for four years in Northwest Indiana. I then served in a mid-size church in Rockford, Illinois, for over eight years as the Pastor of Worship and Creative Outreach.
“Looking back, I often felt well-equipped with my theological and musical training from my time at Moody. However, at times I felt the need to be better equipped to lead people, especially in the context of ministry. So, I went back to school and earned a Master of Arts in Transformational Leadership from Bethel Seminary.
“As a worship leader/director/pastor, other than singing and playing with excellence on stage, I found that having sufficient knowledge in live sound mixing, acoustics, and lighting are also essential for this role. I attended conferences and found other ways to grow my knowledge in sound systems, audio engineering, and various software in order to train and oversee multiple ministry teams under the worship arts umbrella. Being in full-time ministry pushed me to grow and get hands-on experience in technology, which was invaluable. It is very exciting for me to bring these experiences to the classroom so that our students can be comprehensively prepared for the demands of worship ministry.
“If you are considering becoming a M&MA student, I would encourage you to take a step forward in faith. You might just be surprised by how the Lord will shape you and use you for His Kingdom.”
