David Hudson
Associate Professor of Communications | Writing
Prof Hudson grew up in the corn-fenced villages of rural Missouri. After a brief stint in Sweden, he spent his college years unwittingly marching around Chicago (and Moody). He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, M.A. from Southern Illinois, and BS from Southern Indiana.
While finishing his doctorate, Dr. Hudson helped found the Writing Center at Moody. Whether teaching or mentoring students, he loves working with writers one-on-one, celebrating small everyday successes.
Dr. Hudson’s research explores how writers grow and negotiate different writing communities. Recently, he has also dived into studying how AI writing tools impact school and ministry. For several years, Dr. Hudson led the Writing Center remotely from Dallas. Eager to end the Zoom era, he moved back to Chicagoland in 2023, settling in Aurora with his wife and two kids. When he is not teaching, you can usually find Prof. Hudson in the Writing Center, which he still directs. Stop by anytime to challenge him to Euro board games or talk about your favorite writers.
